Tucson has more water than you might think. Because of the Santa Cruz River and our aquifer, Tucson is one of the oldest continuously inhabited sites in the United States, with the oldest irrigation canals in North America. 
This 2 mile/2 hour tour begins at the Mission Garden, a recreation of the walled garden that existed at the San Agustin Mission complex from the late 1700s. This walk will take you through the gardens and explain the history of the small mission site.  It then takes you down into the mostly dry river bottom of the Santa Cruz. Learn about Tucson's history with the river and water and what affected its demise. 
We will also visit the Garden of Gethsemane, a holy site of statues made by WW1 veteran and artist Felix Lucero in the 1940s,see Tucson's tallest tree, and experience the interpretive Cushing Street Bridge.
